In June, 2006 CUTBA announced a major capital campaign to raise $2 million within two years
for Tiger Band scholarships. This was truly an imposing goal, however I am very pleased to report that our
campaign was tremendously successful. We raised in excess of $2,307,000.00 in cash, pledges and deferred
plans and, thereby exceeded our goal. This will help Tiger Band attract and retain talented musicians to
Clemson, which should benefit both the music and marching of the Band that Shakes the Southland. You, as
CUTBA members and Tiger Band Commitment contributors, are to be commended in your loyal support of this
fine organization and your devotion to continue keeping Tiger Band and Clemson University in the forefront
of college bands in the United States. Your generosity is extremely appreciated and you can rest assured
your donations are being used in the best possible way to generate excellence in music and marching at
Clemson University. In order to maintain the endowment perpetually, approximately only 4 percent of the
total Tiger Band Association Scholarship Endowment balance is used annually for scholarships, meaning that
only about 10-15 students receive aid from CUTBA each year, therefore it is imperative to continue the
fundraising. We will continue the Tiger Band Commitment with the momentum we have generated because the
needs of our students have not yet been met. Our theme for the next two years will be "Continue the
Commitment." The Clemson University Foundation can assist individuals interested in donating cash,
property, stocks, bonds, will(s) or other deferred commitments. In addition there are various naming
opportunities and other capital projects available, depending on the level of giving. If you’re interested
in supporting these fine students, contact the Tiger Band office at (864) 656-3380 or Clemson Foundation
office at (864) 656-1655. In addition our own Karmen Kingsmore has graciously volunteered his time in
helping you structure your gift(s) to benefit your family upon your death. Karmen can be reached at
(Email: kkingsmore@resourcehorizons.com) or (Mobile: 864-426-0225). Karmen has spent his professional
career in helping people structure their financial portfolios to benefit their heirs and minimize estate
taxes. In addition feel free to contact Larry Sloan with any questions concerning "Continue the
Commitment" at (Email: LarrySloan@elecprodsales.com) or (Mobile: 864-787-6760). A huge "Thank You" is in
order to the Tiger Band Commitment Committee members Debbie Stapleton, Ed Evans, Karmen Kingsmore and
Larry Sloan, chairman, who graciously donated many hours of hard work and dedication to make this campaign
so successful. In addition thanks go to Rob Porter of the Clemson University Foundation for putting our
thoughts and ideas into action and to Dr. Mark Spede who supported our efforts and volunteered his vast
music and marketing knowledge to the triumphant conclusion of the initial phase of this project.
